Overview of Lenalid

Lenalid is a formulation of Lenalidomide, a thalidomide derivative. This is a prescription drug belonging to the category of immunomodulatory agents possessing the properties of anti-inflammatory, antineoplastic, and anti-angiogenic drugs. It is used in the treatment of the following types of cancers: 

  • Multiple Myeloma
    In combination with Dexamethasone or as maintenance therapy to adult patients suffering from multiple myeloma only after autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. 
  • Myelodysplastic Syndromes
    To adult patients suffering from transfusion-dependent anemia caused by myelodysplastic syndromes, provided evidence of deletion 5q cytogenetic abnormality. 
  • Mantle Cell Lymphoma
    To adult patients suffering from relapsed or progressed mantle cell lymphoma following two prior treatments including Bortezomib. 
  • Follicular Lymphoma
    In combination with a Rituximab product to adult patients suffering from follicular lymphoma (previously treated). 
  • Marginal Zone Lymphoma
    In combination with a Rituximab product to adult patients suffering from marginal zone lymphoma (previously treated). 

The active ingredient of Lenalid is Lenalidomide. Its inactive ingredients are magnesium stearate, lactose anhydrous, croscarmellose sodium, and microcrystalline cellulose. Lenalid (Lenalidomide) is available in the form of oral-use capsules in the strength of 10 mg and 25 mg. 

Interactions

Drug Interactions: There are some drugs that can show severe interactions with Lenalidomide including Leflunomide, Simvastatin, Clozapine, Ethinyl Estradiol, Atorvastatin, and Mumps Virus Vaccine. Any medicine containing these drugs should be administered cautiously during Lenalid therapy, only after discussing the possible risks and benefits with the medical team. If necessary, certain dose adjustments may also be initiated by your doctor. 

Disease Interactions: Renal dysfunction, anemia, and thromboembolism are some of the known diseases that can show severe interactions with Lenalidomide. Any patient who is already suffering from these diseases should administer Lenalid (Lenalidomide) capsules with extreme caution, only after discussing the possible risks and benefits with the medical team. If necessary, certain dose adjustments may also be initiated by your doctor. 

Food Interactions: No significant food interactions are known. You can administer Lenalid (Lenalidomide) capsules with or without food, at the same time every day. Alcohol should be avoided during Lenalid therapy since it can interact with Lenalidomide and cause adverse events.
